Bees Advance to South District Semis with 3-2 Win over Blazers

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield women's soccer team beat Dallas College North Lake, 3-2, Tuesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District quarterfinals at Dallas College Brookhaven.

It is the second straight year Eastfield has beaten North Lake in district quarterfinals, both times at Brookhaven.

Samantha Pena scored the gamewinning goal in the 75th minute on an assist from Cora Hurst. It came as a response to North Lake's tying goal a half-minute earlier.

It was Pena's first game winner of the season, and her second goal this year.

Hurst had a goal and an assist. Her free kick goal in the 70th minute gave the fifth-seeded Harvester Bees (5-10-2) a 2-1 lead. Hurst's goal broke a 1-1 deadlock that carried over 36 minutes.

Hurst has six goals and nine assists for 21 points.

Eastfield's Kristyn Hernandez tied the game at 1 in the 34th minute on an unassisted goal. It was her first goal.

North Lake's Nailea Escobedo Bravo scored six minutes into the game to give the fourth-seeded Blazers (5-6-5) a one-goal lead. After Hurst put the Bees ahead in the 70th minute, North Lake's Anahi Bernal tied the game a second time with a goal at the 74:30 mark. Brenda Rodriguez assisted on both of the Blazers' goals.

Eastfield outshot North Lake, 21-14. The Bees had 15 shots on goal to North Lake's 12.

Harvesters goalkeeper Breanna Loftin was credited with 17 saves. North Lake's Emely Vargas stopped four shots.

Eastfield will meet top seed Brookhaven (9-2-3) in Thursday's 4 p.m. semifinals. It marks the second straight year the two teams will meet as semifinal counterparts. The Bears won last year's postseason matchup, 1-0.
