Eastfield Baseball Repeats as DAC Regular Season Champs
MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team won its second consecutive Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title Saturday, beating Dallas College Brookhaven, 3-1.
No. 3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, the Harvester Bees (39-11, 23-4 DAC) stretched their winning streak to seven straight games. Eastfield has swept its last two three-game conference series, and has won seven league games in a row.
Eastfield will host Dallas College North Lake noon Wednesday in the final regular season home game to begin the last conference series. Games 2 and 3 are scheduled for noon Friday and Saturday at North Lake.
Harvester Bees starter Cody Ausmus (5-1) didn't allow Brookhaven to score until the ninth inning, with Eastfield nursing a three-run lead. Ausmus scattered seven hits, and didn't walk a batter, while notching a season-high six strikeouts. Stephen Pena retired the final Bears hitter for his second save this year.
Eastfield scored once in the fourth, once in the seventh and once in the eighth. The Harvester Bees finished with nine hits to the Bears' seven.
Second baseman Gus Witt went 2-for-3 with a walk, and scored a run. First baseman Angel Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk. Designated hitter River Curs was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Griffin Tarter doubled, and drove in a run. Left fielder Cade Conway went 1-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Center fielder Kyson Snelson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
It was the 17th game this year the Harvester Bees have held an opponent to one run or less.
