Eastfield to Host South Central District Tournament Beginning Wednesday
MESQUITE, Texas -- Dallas College Eastfield will host the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament, beginning 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The Harvester Bees (42-11) are the top seed after winning the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title for the second straight year. Following Wednesday's single-elimination games, Eastfield will play the lowest remaining seed at 10 a.m. Thursday to begin double-elimination round.
The championship game is scheduled for noon Saturday with an if-necessary game to follow. The tournament schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
Eastfield won last year's district title, beating Richland, 15-2, in the championship game. The Harvester Bees went on to the NJCAA Division III World Series, where they fell in the title game to Herkimer College, 9-3.
The Harvester Bees have won 10 in a row entering the postseason. They are hitting .334 as a team, which ranks 24th in the country. They are tied for second with 69 home runs. Eastfield's 4.08 team earned run average ranks 10th nationally.
Angel Rodriguez is batting .435 with 14 home runs, 13 doubles, five triples and 79 runs batted in. His 79 RBI is third in the country, and his 14 homers are tied for sixth. Cade Conway is batting .364 with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, three triples, 53 RBI and 44 stolen bases. His 44 stolen bases are tied for fourth nationally.
Ryan Dickey is 8-2 on the mound with a 4.48 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 60.1 innings. Cody Ausmus is 6-1 with a 2.86 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 56.2 innings. Nick Lozano, Stephen Pena and Ian Roberts each has two saves.
