Harvester Bees Sting Pioneers in District Tournament

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield beat North Arkansas College, 9-5, in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament Thursday.

The second-ranked and top-seeded Harvester Bees (43-11) advanced to Friday's 10 a.m. semifinals in a matchup with No. 11-ranked and second-seeded Dallas College Richland (36-20).

Eastfield won its 11th straight game, and did so by matching North Arkansas (37-13) with 11 hits. Gus Witt, Angel Rodriguez and Griffin Tarter each had two hits for the Harvester Bees.

The Harvesters scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to snag a 7-3 lead. The Pioneers picked up a run in the sixth and another in the top of the eighth to pull within 7-5. But Eastfield added two more in the bottom half of the eighth to pad the lead.

Witt was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a walk and two runs scored. Tarter was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Cade Conway went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Jayden Morgan had a double, two RBI and two walks. Manny Moore and River Curs both went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and combined for three walks.

North Arkansas' Garrett Fitts was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Logan Files went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk. Quince Venghaus was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk. Reed Ellison and Shaun Gomez both went 2-for-5.

Eastfield's Ian Roberts (4-0) got the win in relief, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits, a walk and three strikeouts in five innings. Starter Marcus Peters went three innings, allowing a run on two hits and three walks, and had four strikeouts. Ryan Dickey pitched one inning, giving up two runs, a hit and a walk, while striking out one batter.

North Arkansas' Zac Acheson (1-1) took the loss after giving up five runs, five hits and a walk in 3.1 innings of relief. Starter Caden Barnhart went 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run, one hit and four walks.

Eastfield won four of the six regular season games against Richland this season. The Harvester Bees were 3-0 at home against the Thunderducks.
