Baseball Explodes in Win over Lions

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield beat Dallas College Mountain View in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday, 15-2.

The No. 2 nationally-ranked Harvester Bees improved to 9-1. The Lions fell to 4-2.

Eastfield pounded 16 hits, including three by left fielder Peyton Tuggle. He went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and seven runs batted in, boosting his average to .571 through seven games this season. It was his first homer of the season.

The Harvester Bees scored in each of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to account for all of their run production. The Bees took a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third when they put four runs on the board. They scored five more in the fourth, and tacked on three in the fifth. Mountain View picked up both of its runs in the top of the sixth.

Five different Harvester Bees had multiple hits.

Eastfield first baseman Payton Poole was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base. Catcher Billy Spratt had two hits in as many plate appearances, and drove in two runs. Center fielder River Curs had two hits, a walk and an RBI in three at-bats. Shortstop Josh Vaughn was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Right fielder JJ Bush had a hit and a walk in two trips to the plate. Designated hitter Jorge Herrera was 1-for-2. Second baseman Garret Hendricks was 1-for-4, and drove in a run.

Gabe Forer doubled in two trips to the plate. Case Walls also was 1-for-2. Clay Payne and third baseman Michael Caputo both drove in a run.

Starter Nick Lozano allowed a hit and walk with no runs, and had one strikeout in three innings. Cameron Ward gave up two walks, no hits and no runs, and struck out three in two innings of middle relief.

Eastfield is set to host Des Moines Area Community College in a doubleheader 12 p.m. Saturday. Mountain View will play a nonconference game at Hill College 1 p.m. Friday.
