Peters Named DAC Pitcher of Year, Bees Collect 8 First Team Honors

DALLAS – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team was represented by eight First Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference players, while Marcus Peters was voted the league's Pitcher of the Year.

A sophomore righthander from Richardson, Texas, Peters takes an 11-4 record into this weekend's National Junior College Athletic Association Division III World Series in Auburn, New York. He owns a 2.65 earned run average and 100 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched. Peters tossed one complete game shutout, and didn't allow a run in six appearances – two of which he went five innings or more. Peters didn't surrender a run in five innings of work against NJCAA Division III South Central District qualifier North Arkansas College, who received votes in the final rankings, early in the season, and also kept NJCAA Division I Howard off the board in six innings of work. He had a career-high 13 strikeouts against Dallas College Cedar Valley.

Second baseman Garret Hendricks, shortstop John Jackson, outfielders Michael Caputo and River Curs and pitchers Jacob Prokarym, Tyler Do, Teagan Rehwald and Ryan Dyer were all first team selections. First baseman Payton Poole, third baseman Josh Vaughn and second baseman Aubrey Whitehead were all second team picks.

A freshman from Forney, Texas, Hendricks has a .389 batting average with four doubles, a triple, home run, 26 runs batted in and 13 stolen bases. He collected a season-high four hits in two games, and drove in three in three.

Jackson, a sophomore from Crandall, Texas, is hitting .326 with 14 doubles, a triple, six homers, 54 RBI and seven stolen bases. He had four hits at LeTourneau University Junior Varsity, and drove in a season-best seven runs at Dallas College Brookhaven.

A freshman from Leander, Texas, Caputo owns a .427 average with 14 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 34 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He had three hits in six games, while driving in three in two.

Curs, a sophomore who hails from Burleson, Texas, is batting .381 with 21 doubles, two triples, eight homers, 57 RBI and 23 stolen bases. He had four hits in three games, and drove in five against Joliet Junior College.

Prokarym, a sophomore left hander from Plano, Texas, will take an 8-2 record with a 4.02 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 65 innings into the national tournament. He matched his career high with 10 strikeouts against Cedar Valley, and went the distance in a seven-inning shutout of Dallas College Mountain View. He didn't allow a run in three of his 14 appearances.

A freshman right hander from Sugar Land, Texas, Do is 10-0 with a 3.93 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 71 innings. He tossed two complete games, and didn't allow a run in two of his 16 appearances – one in which he went 4.2 innings against North Arkansas. He had a season-high six strikeouts against NJCAA Division I Galveston College.

A freshman right hander from Frisco, Texas, Rehwald is 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. He appeared in 12 games, starting three. Rehwald fanned a season-best four batters at NJCAA Division I Hill College.

A freshman right hander from North Richland Hills, Texas, Dyer is 3-2 with one save, a 5.17 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 40 innings. He made 18 appearances, starting three games. Dyer recorded a season-best five punchouts against Dallas-Fort Worth Post Grad.

A sophomore from Benbrook, Texas, Poole is hitting .389 with 27 doubles, four triples, five homers, 73 RBI and 13 stolen bases. He had four hits in two games, and drove in four in seven.

Vaughn, a sophomore from San Antonio, is batting .372 with 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs, 39 RBI and seven stolen bases. He had three hits in six games, while driving in four at Brookhaven.

Whitehead, a sophomore from Cleburne, Texas, is hitting .288 with 10 doubles, a triple, six homers, 34 RBI and five stolen bases. He had three hits, and drove in four runs at Mountain View.

Eastfield meets St. Cloud Technical & Community College 8:30 a.m. Saturday to open the NJCAA Division III World Series.
