
Eastfield Baseball Beats North Lake 5-3
MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team beat Dallas College North Lake 5-3 in Game 1 of this week's three-game series.
The No. 3-ranked Harvester Bees (39-7, 19-3 Dallas Athletic Conference) stretched their lead to four games at the top of the league standings. North Lake fell to 19-28, 10-12, and sits in fourth place in the DAC.
Eastfield took a two-run lead in the first inning, and bumped it to 4-1 after four. North Lake scored in each of the next two innings to pull within a run. The Harvester Bees picked up a run in the eighth to cushion the lead, and Eastfield relievers Cooper Sexton and Traelyn James kept the Blazers off the board the final three-and-a-third innings to preserve the lead.
Bees starter Tyler Do (4-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk, while fanning four in the win. Sexton worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief, giving up two walks, while striking out two. James earned his third save of the season, also not surrendering a hit or a run, while allowing one walk.
Harvesters third baseman Sebastian Palma went 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs batted in and a stolen base. It was his sixth homer of the season. The top seven batters in the lineup each had at least one of the Bees' nine hits. Center fielder Luke Sasser and left fielder Michael Caputo were both 1 for 4 with an RBI. Sasser also had a stolen base. Catcher Drew Saenz went 1 for 2, and drove in a run. He also had two stolen bases. Shortstop Angel Gutierrez and right fielder Brandon Sheets each tripled.
North Lake's Cole Chapman was 2 for 3 with a stolen base. Parker Burt went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Issac Garcia was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Leo Salas doubled in three plate appearances. The top six batters in the Blazers' lineup each had at least one hit. North Lake also finished with nine hits.
Blazers starter Matthew Wendorf (4-3) allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits and a walk in the loss.
The series is scheduled to shift to North Lake Friday and Saturday at noon for Games 2-3.
