Eastfield Earns 12 All-DAC Baseball Honors
DALLAS – Eight Dallas College Eastfield baseball players earned First Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference honors, three others were second team choices and Michael Martin was named the league's Coach of the Year.
Sebastian Palma, Jorge Herrera, Michael Caputo, Luke Sasser, Erik Aguirre, Benjamin Sheppard, Ryan Dyer and Teague Rehwald all earned First Team All-DAC recognition. Angel Gutierrez, Cooper Sexton and Tyler Do received Second Team All-DAC honors.
A freshman third baseman from Dallas, Palma batted .426 with six home runs, 61 RBI, 17 doubles, four triples and six stolen bases this season. He had 18 multi-RBI games, including a season-high six in a win over Trinidad State College.
A sophomore first baseman from Mesquite, Texas, Herrera batted .341 with five home runs, 73 RBI, 22 doubles and nine stolen bases. He had a season-high four hits in a win over Dallas College Cedar Valley, and produced 23 multi-hit games.
A sophomore left fielder from Leander, Texas, Caputo hit .408 with six homers, 21 doubles, four triples, 51 RBI and 29 stolen bases. He had 28 multi-hit games, including a 4 for 4 performance in a win over Dallas College Brookhaven in the South Central District Tournament semifinals.
A freshman center fielder from San Antonio, Sasser hit .319 with nine doubles, three triples, five homers, 30 RBI and 44 stolen bases, which was tied for fifth in the country. He had a season-high four hits, including a home run and a double in a win over Dallas College North Lake.
A freshman designated hitter from Pasadena, Texas, Aguirre hit .419 with 12 doubles, three triples, three homers, 34 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He had 16 multi-hit games, including three in five games – the last in the district semifinal win over Brookhaven.
A freshman left-handed pitcher from Forney, Texas, Sheppard went a nation-leading 11-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 10 starts and 18 appearances. He pitched eight shutout innings in a win over Dallas College Cedar Valley.
A sophomore right-hander from North Richland Hills, Texas, Dyer was 7-1 with one save, a 4.50 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 72 innings. He went seven innings, not allowing an earned run in a win over Brookhaven.
A sophomore right-hander from Frisco, Texas, Rehwald was 5-2 with a 4.47 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 46.1 innings. He pitched five shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a win over North Arkansas College.
A freshman shortstop from Houston, Gutierrez batted .339 with eight doubles, four triples, a home run, 36 RBI and 42 stolen bases. He had a season-best four hits in a win over North Arkansas, while collecting three hits in six other games.
A freshman right-hander from Springtown, Texas, Sexton had a 3.55 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 15 relief appearances. He had nine appearances where he didn't allow a run, including five in a row.
A sophomore right-handed pitcher from Sugar Land, Texas, Do put together a 6-4 record with 75 strikeouts and 4.54 ERA in 79 1/3 innings. He went all nine innings in a win over Dallas College Richland, not surrendering an earned run, while fanning nine.
In his 24th year, Martin's ball club won its fourth consecutive DAC regular season title, going 45-14 overall, 22-8 in the DAC. His team was ranked in the top 4 in the national poll all season.
