Harvester Bees Outlast No. 14 Lions for Ninth Straight Win

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield men's basketball team outlasted visiting No. 14 Dallas College Mountain View in a dandy Dallas Athletic Conference opener Saturday.

Eastfield, which was receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, improved to 12-9 overall, 1-0 in the league. The Harvester Bees have won nine in a row, dating back to a buzzer-beating victory over NJCAA Division I Connors State College on Dec. 2. The Bees have scored over 110 points in each of their past five wins.

Marcus Gill Jr. scored 21 points and had six assists and three steals, and Joshua Williford and Delkedric Holmes each had 19 points for Eastfield, which built a 63-54 halftime lead. Williford had nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block. Holmes had five boards, five assists and six steals.

Dezmon Dudley had 15 points and two steals, and Jayden Jackson 11 points, nine rebounds, five steals and a block for Eastfield, which shot 43 percent from the floor. Dwayne Reliford had eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. The Bees were 30 of 45 at the free throw line for 66.7 percent.

Mountain View's Xavier Peyton had 30 points on 12 of 17 shooting, including 4 of 5 from three-point range. Joshua Smith had 19 points, 18 boards, six blocks, four assists and two steals. Bryant Smith and Cam Spencer each scored 12 points, and combined for nine rebounds.

The Lions (13-7, 0-1) shot 55 percent from the field. They were 25 of 30 from the free throw line for 83.3 percent.

Eastfield outrebounded Mountain View, 45-44. The Harvesters had 30 assists, while the Lions finished with 22. Eastfield had 26 steals on 36 Mountain View turnovers. Both teams blocked seven shots.

The Harvester Bees will host Dallas College Brookhaven (12-7, 1-0) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a Coaches vs. Cancer game. Supporters can donate to Eastfield's cause to help the American Cancer Society's efforts to battle cancer.
