Eastfield Volleyball Goes 4-0 at Blinn College Tournament

BRENHAM, Texas -- Dallas College Eastfield's volleyball team participated in the Blinn College Tournament this past weekend, coming home with four more wins to push its record to 19-0 on the season.

The second-ranked Harvester Bees opened the tournament against John Melvin University, a four-year school from Louisiana. Eastfield controlled the first two sets, winning 25-11 in each. A letdown by the Harvesters and some scrappy defense from John Melvin allowed the Millers to take the third set, 25-23, before Eastfield regained control, and won the fourth set, 25-8.

In the second match of the tournament for Eastfield, the Bees took on Coastal Bend. The Harvester Bees took control early, winning the first set, 25-15, followed by a 25-5 win in Set 2. This time, Eastfield finished the match in three, winning 25-22 to finish the match. The Bees had three hitters hit over .400 for the match, with Brenly Walker notching 16 kills, and McKenzie Anderson hitting .571.

Day 2 of the tournament saw Eastfield open against the No. 6-ranked College of DuPage. The Harvesters came out smoking, beating the defending national champions in three sets by the scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14. The Bees hit .330 as a team, led by Aleyna Gerlach with nine kills and a .750 hitting percentage.

Eastfield wrapped up the tournament against Northwest Mississippi Community College. The Rangers came out strong, building a strong lead in Set 1. The Harvesters fought back, but couldn't overtake the Rangers, falling 26-24 in Set 1. Both teams battled throughout Set 2, with the game remaining close until the Harvesters were able to close it out, 25-23.  Eastfield started to find their rhythm in Sets 3 and 4, winning 25-14 and 25-17. Eastfield was led by Azoria Davis with 19 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Setter Taryn Doiron contributed 31 assists, two aces and nine digs in the victory also.

Eastfield starts the DAC conference portion of their schedule Monday. The Harvester Bees host Dallas College North Lake at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
