Bees Defeat Brookhaven to Clinch DAC Regular Season Title

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Dallas College Eastfield's volleyball team beat host Dallas College Brookhaven in a showdown of two of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III's Top 5 teams Monday. The top-ranked Harvester Bees overcame a first set loss to win the next three to remain unbeaten following the 19-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-22 victory.

Eastfield clinched the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title with the win, and will host the NJCAA Division III South District Tournament next Wednesday-Saturday.

Ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division III poll, Brookhaven (11-14, 6-3 DAC) came out strong, taking an early lead on the Harvester Bees, and carrying that through the opening set.

Eastfield (28-0, 9-0) regrouped, and made a few changes that helped stabilize its play that overwhelmed the Bears in the second set. Both teams battled hard for points in Set 3, with Eastfield pulling out a six-point victory to claim a 2-1 lead in the match. Brookhaven opened an early lead in the final set, but despite trailing 19-16, Eastfield went on a run fueled by agressive serving from Amber Smart to take the lead before closing out the match.

Eastfield was led offensively by freshman outside hitter Azoria Davis and sophomore middle hitter Tasmine MaxwellAva Cole and Smart, along with Davis, had excellent production in the back row.

Eastfield will close out the regular season Thursday at home against Dallas College Richland. First serve is at 6 p.m.
