Eastfield Volleyball Goes 4-0 to Open Season

MESQUITE, Texas -- Dallas College Eastfield's volleyball team opened the season at home in the Eastfield Invitational. The Harvester Bees went 3-0 in the tournament, beating Ranger College on Thursday in a sweep, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19. The Bees had three players in double figure kills, with sophomore Brenly Walker knocking down 12, while sophomores Kendall Wilson and Azoria Davis both had 11. Sophomore setter Taryn Doiron had 38 assists. For the match, the Harvesters had 46 kills, and hit a sizzling .336.

On Friday, Eastfield stepped away from their own tournament to play Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Dallas College North Lake. The Harvester Bees started strong, winning the first set, 25-19, and were up for most of the second set before NEO made a strong comeback. The teams traded points late in the set before the Bees pulled it out, 34-32.  Eastfield finished the sweep with a 25-22 victory in Set 3. Eastfield was led again by Walker with 15 kills, while McKenzie Anderson notched 13.

Saturday saw the conclusion of the Eastfield Invitational, with the home team taking on Independence Community College and Cloud County Community College, both from Kansas. Eastfield jumped on Independence, beating them 25-15, 25-13, 25-15. Everyone saw action for the Harvester Bees, with mulitple freshmen notching their first college game experience. Sophomore Carli Banks had 14 kills to lead the way, while freshman Aracely Nunez picked up six digs during her time on the court.

In the second match of the day for Eastfield, the Bees took down Cloud County by the scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-20.  Eastfield used a balanced attack and agressive serving to take the T-Birds out of their game. Walker and Davis each had eight kills, while Anderson had seven and Banks six. Wilson added three service aces and two blocks.

Eastfield will return to action this weekend at the Wrangler Ranger Roundup hosted by Ranger College and Cisco College.
