Banks Voted DAC MVP, Bees' Starters Collect First Team Honors

DALLAS – Dallas College Eastfield volleyball's Carli Banks was voted the Dallas Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player. She and the rest of the Harvester Bees' starting lineup received First Team All-DAC honors.

Sophomore Taryn Doiron was selected as the DAC Setter of the Year. Sophomore Kendall Wilson was chosen as the DAC Blocker of the Year. Sophomore Ava Cole received the DAC Libero of the Year award. Head coach Phil Nickel was named DAC Coach of the Year.

Outside hitters Brenly Walker and Azoria Davis, middle blockers McKenzie Anderson and Wilson, Doiron and Cole each earned First Team All-DAC honors.

A sophomore outside hitter from Houston, Banks is hitting .328 with 253 kills, 290 digs, 48 blocks and 40 aces as Eastfield prepares to defend its National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championship this week in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She had a career-high 15 kills and 30 digs in a five-set win at NJCAA Division I Temple College. Banks ripped off a career-best five aces in a sweep of NJCAA Division II Central Community College-Columbus. She had a career-high four blocks in a four-set win over NJCAA Division II Metropolitan Community College.

A product of Orange, Texas, Doiron collected the league Setter of the Year honor for the second consecutive year. She leads the nation in assists (1068), and is second in assists per set (11.24). She has 268 digs, 32 blocks and 29 aces. She had a career-high 62 assists in the win at Temple College. She had 50 or more assists in four matches. Doiron had five aces in three-set wins at Dallas College Mountain View and Dallas College Brookhaven.

Wilson, who hails from Katy, Texas, leads the Harvester Bees in blocks with 74, and has 172 kills and 34 aces, while hitting .313. She had a career-high seven blocks in the win over Metropolitan. She had five blocks in a four-set win over Western Texas College, and has four or more blocks in five matches. She had a career-high 11 kills in two matches.

A native of Royse City, Cole is the conference Libero of the Year for a second straight year. She has a team-high 421 digs, while leading the Bees in digs per set (4.48). She also has 20 aces. Cole had a career-high 37 digs in the win over NJCAA Division II Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. She's had 20 or more digs in five matches.

Walker, a sophomore from Lexington, Texas, has 283 kills, while averaging a team-best 3.29 kills per set, 264 digs, 43 blocks and 27 aces. She had a career-high 19 kills in the win over Metropolitan. Walker had 18 kills in two other matches, and has hit over .300 in nine matches. She had a season-high 20 digs in the victory over Northeast Oklahoma A&M.

A sophomore out of League City, Texas, Davis has 224 kills, 283 digs, 30 blocks and 12 aces. She banged down a season-high 15 kills in a sweep of Dallas College North Lake. She had 14 kills, and hit .440 in a sweep at NJCAA Division I Cisco College. Davis also had 14 kills in the sweep of North Lake to capture the NJCAA Division III South District title. She had a season-high 19 digs in the victory over Western Texas College.

Anderson, who hails from Liberty, Texas, has a team-high 285 kills and .371 attack percentage, and has 73 blocks. She pounded a career-high 21 kills in back-to-back matches on the same day – the wins over Metropolitan and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. She hit a career-best .800 with no errors in a sweep of Dallas College Cedar Valley, and has hit .400 or better in 16 matches. Anderson had a career-high eight blocks in the sweep of Central CC-Columbus.

Nickel was named the DAC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. He's guided the Harvester Bees to a 30-1 overall record, which includes a second straight DAC title after going 10-0 in the conference. The Bees also repeated as South District champs, and have been ranked No. 1 in the country all season.

Eastfield will play Harrisburg Area Community College in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament 1 p.m. CT Thursday.
